A. Its ugly record of police brutality is known in every section of the country. Its unjust treatment of Negros in the courts is a notorious reality. There have been more unsolved bombings of Negro homes and churches in Birmingham than in any city in this nation. These are hard, brutal, and unbelievable facts.

Here, you will find some "memes" created by artist Daniel Rarela, for the purpose of educating people that might otherwise "whitewash" or downplay the true meaning that Dr. King was putting forth in his Letter from Birmingham Jail. 

For the bell ringer, just find one meme with which to connect. Then, you will write for about 5 minutes (at least 7 sentences or more) in response to the meme. Now, you can: 1- Consider the meaning of Dr. King's words; 2- Show how they are still relevant today; and/or, 3- Connect to it based on your personal experiences. It is really up to you! I just want you writing and thinking about the artist, the content, the words of Dr. King, how they are relevant today, and/or how they connect with your personal experiences.
