Hope- crutch or power?

In this blog, you will share your views about hope.

Your post must be at least 100 words or more. Answer the questions below:
1-Begin by finding a quote about hope. Share what you think this quote means.
2-  Does hope help people? If so how/why? Explain. Provide examples as support.
3-Share a story about someone that you know personally. How did hope help them make it through a tough situation. If you do not know anyone, then you may use an example from history (e.g. Jews during the Holocaust), or an example from current events.
4-Does hope present a false narrative? For example, should people be real and honest with themselves instead of just hoping for the best? Can people have too much hope? Explain. Provide examples as support.
5- Share a story about someone that you know personally, that just has too much hope. How did this belief hurt him/her? How would honesty about the situation have been it better? If you do not know anyone, then you may use an example from history or from a current event.

When you are finished, make sure to reply to at least one other student in 50 words or more. Make sure to include your first name and first initial. Make sure to include your period number.

Imagining Standing Bear's Soundtrack

10/1/2017

Picture
Overview:
For the homework this week, you got the opportunity to learn more about the events leading to the famous trial of Standing Bear. During the time he lived, the Native American people were oppressed and were even considered "wards" of the court.  His case was important for eventually securing the freedom of his people. His speech during the trial challenges how we look at other people and how we view our own humanity. He makes a moral case for freedom by appealing to the people as a Christian who was created by the same God.

Instructions:
Imagine someone was going to do a contemporary musical about Standing Bear. They were going to use contemporary songs to tell his story. A large portion would be told using music.

In this blog, you will compose an original post that must include the following items:
1- First, you will pick the 5 important events from Standing Bear's journey that stand out to you personally.

2- Second, you will compose a modern soundtrack (of songs) that you think would express his feelings during those different events in his journey. For example, his son dies and he makes a promise. What song do you think would fit here? Why?

3- Third, you must relate why you selected that specific song to represent Standing Bear during that event.

Specifics: You must relate the 5 events. You must tell the song. Feel free to provide a link to the Song (e.g. You Tube). You must also tell why you selected that song to represent that specific event in Standing Bear's life. For example, was there a lyric in the song that made you think of this event? Explain your answer.

In this blog, you will compose an original response to 1 or more peers:
  • Also, you must respond to at least one of your peers.
  • Try not to just agree/disagree. In contrast, try to have a thoughtful conversation about the songs and how they relate to different events for Standing Bear.

Reading Journal #2

Good morning,
Please begin by watching the videos below:
Watch- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS5xy7iHJ6o
Watch- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXYnMRY5f_E
Write down at least 1-2 two portions of the interview where Chris tells his story, in his own words.
Now, what is most compelling about hearing Chris tell his own story versus having someone else tell his story? What is the same? What is different? Which do you like best? Why? Compare/contrast the differences.
What motivated Chris most?
What details did Chris use to illustrate his story?
Additionally, try to reflect a bit. For example, what lessons did Chris share that are inspiring to you personally? Why?

I look forward to reading your responses. :-)
Kind regards,
Mrs. Weatherby
